Caramel Apples

We just big kids at heart over here at CL and no matter what time of the year it is we just love our caramel apples and the best thing is we don’t need to be at a fair or a festival or even at Disney (where we’ve had the best caramel apples on the planet) we can make them at home any time and enjoy their delicious simple flavours.

INGREDIENTS

4 washed and dried apples; stems removed

Popsicle sticks

12 to 14 ounce bag of Kraft or Werther’s Original caramels

2 to 3 tsp of milk (using it sparingly)

Chopped peanuts or your favour nut or toppings

Parchment paper lined cookie sheet to easily remove the finished apples

DIRECTIONS

Needless to say; remove all the caramels from their wrappers and put into a microwave safe or double boiler.

You can melt the caramels either in the microwave in 30 second shots and mix between until nice and smooth and runny adding a tiny bit of milk to smooth it out; careful not to add too much milk as the caramel will just slide off the apples leaving behind a delicious mess around your apples. You can also place the caramels in the top portion of a double boiler as well but this is the long method that we try to avoid.

Insert Popsicle sticks into the center of the apple.

Quickly rotate the apple in the caramel to completely coat; allowing the excess to drip off before rolling in nuts. Shake off excess nuts and place on lined parchment paper cookie sheet until hardened and enjoy!
